I want to buy more than the system will allow me. Why can't I?
You may receive a message about insufficient quantities from time to time. We strive to stay in stock at all times and replenish our inventory many times per day, every day. You may purchase what we have now and come back after this time to re-purchase your additional needs. You may also receive a message about a maximum order amount from time to time. We currently limit your retail order amount to a reasonable amount. Your limit will be automatically increased over time after your first order reaches a certain pre-set age.

I exceeded my limit for the day, so I tried to open another account, I even used a different credit or debit card number but it still would not give me the pin instantly, why?
There is no way around the limit. We have taken every step to prevent fraud so customers can safely shop at our site and use our service. The system will automatically raise your limit over time and you will be notified via email. You may also visit our credit verification page in order to have your limit increased.

What is CVV?
CVV stands for Credit Verification Value. It is a new method for your bank to protect your account from fraudulent transactions. This is a 3 to 4 digit number found on all credit or debit cards but it is not embossed or digitized on the card. Therefore, only the cardholder has this information. Most internet sites do not require this information but we do to protect your valuable credit and our merchandise.
back to top  back to Ordering Questions

What is a Temporary Authorization?
While it may appear that you've been charged twice for an order, the pending item you noticed on your bank statement is actually an authorization. Authorizations are the initial communication between our billing system and the bank's billing system. While you may see multiple pending listings in your account, only one charge will be deducted after the authorization is completed. When this final deduction occurs, the charge will be posted to your account as successful. Google will not bill an account until we receive an approved authorization from the bank. Authorizations are processed each time you update your credit card, and each time you make a purchase. When you check your bank account, payment authorizations will often be listed as pending. These authorizations can remain in your account anywhere from 24 hours up to 14 business days, depending on the bank. You may contact your bank to confirm the charge for your purchase with Google or to check on the authorization status.

It is very important to understand the difference between a "Temporary Authorization" and an actual charge. Primarily, money NEVER leaves your account on "Temporary Authorizations." "Temporary Authorizations" are NOT even printed on your official bank statement. Lastly, "Temporary Authorizations" are typically in a different section of your online statement. Below is the banking process that we follow at PhoneShark.com®:
  1. Every time when you place an order on PhoneShark.com®, we send what is called an "authorization request" to your credit/debit card company. This request includes the amount of the order as well as the billing information you included on the order form. At the time you place your order, this is only an authorization, not a charge against your credit/debit card. Money has NOT left your account.

  2. An authorization is only a hold on the funds for a possible future transfer of funds. Your bank does this so that you do not overdraft your account (debit cards) or exceed your credit limit (credit cards). This hold is temporary and if the order is not released, the "Temporary Authorization" will expire without any action. It is not a completed transaction and NO funds are transferred at the time you place your order. The time it takes for an authorization to expire on its own is dictated by your bank. Times vary between 3 and 30 days, with 7 as the average. The banks do not provide any mechanism for us to "drop" an authorization against your account. Sorry about this and please do not ask for refund, because no funds are being captured at this stage.

  3. Your credit/debit card company not only verifies that the card is valid and that the amount is available, they also verify the full billing information that was entered. If the card number is valid and the funds are available they put an authorization hold on the funds regardless of whether the billing information entered was also valid.

  4. Our automated authorization procedures require that you enter your EXACT billing information as it appears on your credit/debit card statement. Failure to do so may result in your bank performing an authorization hold against your credit/debit card account that is ultimately rejected by our banking systems as a valid transaction. If you try placing your order multiple times with incorrect information, you run the risk of placing multiple "Temporary Authorization" holds against your credit/debit card account.

  5. If your credit/debit card company returns a valid authorization to us with a message that the billing information did not match you will receive an error message after you submit your order stating that your order was not processed. DO NOT attempt to reprocess your order unless you correct your billing information.

  6. If all of your address information matches and the bank authorizes the transaction we will begin processing your order. Only after the transaction is settled are any funds transferred. We do not settle your transaction until your account is verified.

  7. Each time you submit the order and receive an error message another temporary authorization hold will be placed on your card, we highly recommend copying the information directly from your credit/debit card statement to the online form to avoid this.

  8. We do not recommend verifying your address with your card company over the phone as many address terms will appear different to their processing system, however they tend to sound the same over the phone; such as: "2nd" and "Second" or "Lane" and "Ln". For this reason we recommend using your printed card statement for the address verification.

  9. If you have tried more than once to process your order through our systems and are unable to obtain a valid authorization, you may contact us and we can inquire to our banking systems as to why your request may have failed.

back to top  back to PhoneCard Questions

What is a connection fee?
A connection fee is the additional fee imposed by the Telephone Company every time you use your phonecard to make a call. (You will not get charged for a connection fee if the call does not connect, the other party does not pick up the phone, or you get a busy signal.) The amount of the connection fee varies with each phonecard. To check to see if a phonecard has a connection fee please refer to the phonecard's detailed information page.
back to top  back to PhoneCard Questions

Is a phonecard without a connection fee better?
This depends on your calling durations and frequency. A card with no connection fees can save you more money if you have frequent and short conversations. If you tend to talk on the phone for an extended period of time a card with connection fees may be more suited for your needs. In general cards that have NO connection fees usually have a higher per minute rate then cards that have it.
back to top  back to PhoneCard Questions

Do your instant phonecards use the Internet as communication media?
Yes, the phonecards we provide use the most reliable, real-time communications that the Internet can provide. We strive to provide our customers with the best in quality, reliability and cost savings. Using the Internet helps us do that. Can I use the phonecards in other countries besides the United States?
This depends on the card purchased. Some phonecards can be used from various countries, while most are only to be used from the USA. If your card is capable of dialing from other countries follow the dialing instructions sent to you. Please note that dialing from other countries is beyond the scope of the service we provide. Additional information and help can be obtained by contacting the phonecard's customer service.
back to top  back to PhoneCard Questions

I live in Canada, Alaska, Hawaii or other parts of the U.S. territories can I use an instant phonecard?
If you live in these areas and are not sure which phonecard can be used, the best way to find out is go to the phonecard's detailed information page, locate the toll-free access number and dial it from your phone. If it connects then the phonecard can be used in your area. You might also want to make sure that the phonecard's customer service number connects as well just in case you need customer service in the future.
back to top  back to PhoneCard Questions

What is one-minute inception fee?
Some cards may have a minute inception fee. This means that once a call is being made it is assumed that the call will at least be one minute. For more information you can find more detailed information for each card by clicking the "terms" link when browsing the PhoneShark.com's® search results page.
back to top  back to PhoneCard Questions

What is time/minute rounding?
Time rounding is the time unit used by the phonecard manufacturers to round up your talk time. Usually, time rounding is one minute. Time rounding rounds up your talk time to the nearest whole minute. Time rounding, which is also used on your regular phone bill, is a convention of the telecommunication industry. If you want to know exact time rounding, please call the customer service number of the phonecard you are interested in.
back to top  back to PhoneCard Questions

Can I call a cell phone with my phonecard?

Phonecards that are not capable of calling a cell phone will not. For more detailed information about calling a cell phone please call the customer service number of the phonecard of interest.

How Does it Work?
Please click here for details.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

How do I get paid?
To start receiving commission checks you must first set up your account information, which includes your mailing address for the checks. Next you would recommend your friends to the PhoneShark.com® website. When your FINZ rewards total at least $25.00 you may then receive your check. You choose how much of your FINZ Rewards are mailed as a check and how much you leave in your account for making purchases.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

Am I responsible for any taxes due on my commission checks?
YES! As it states in your FINZ Membership agreement you are solely responsible for any and all taxes due on your own income. Taxes will NOT be removed from the reward checks for you. All rewards checks sent to you will be reported to the IRS. It us up to you to claim the income to the IRS. If you have any questions specifically about taxes please contact a qualified tax specialist to answer your questions.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

How can I improve my FINZ Earnings?
We have built features into the program that allows you to sort your recommended friends by rewards produced and date recommended. This lets you delete recommended friends that are not producing rewards and recommend NEW friends. This lets you groom your friends' list to maximize your earnings.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

How many Friends can I recommend?
As many as you like.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

How do I recommend my Friends?
As a FINZ Member you log in to FINZ. You then go to ADD/DELETE Friends. You will then be able to load your friends into the system by typing in their email addresses. The form field lets you CUT AND PASTE large amounts of email addresses at one time for your convenience. Of course you can also type them in one at a time.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

If I delete a friend can I recommend them again?
Yes, as long as someone else does not recommend the friend in the meantime.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

It says my friend is already a FINZ member as I tried to load them?
The FINZ Program is a reward program for producing NEW customers. Therefore if someone is already a PhoneShark.com® Customer a member can NOT recommend him or her into the program. A person can ONLY be recommended by ONE FINZ Member. It is too late for you if they are already recommended by someone else.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

Can I purchase PhoneShark.com® products with my FINZ Rewards?
YES. However, at this time products must be paid completely in FINZ. You can NOT make a partial purchase with FINZ and pay the difference in cash at this time. (We are working on it). Of course you can still use a credit card to make any purchase.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

What if I lose my FINZ Rewards check or it gets stolen?
This would be most unfortunate, as PhoneShark.com® is not responsible for lost or stolen FINZ Reward checks and will not replace them. The lost/stolen check would be considered paid in full. Of course, the checks are sent out monthly and you would continue to receive future FINZ Reward checks. The most important thing to do is keep your mailing address current to avoid this situation.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

Will you send email to my friends?
We will send a welcome email letting them know briefly about PhoneShark.com® and that they have been recommended. Of course they will have the easy ability to OPT OUT and never receive another email from the FINZ Program again. If they remove themselves from the email list THEY WILL REMAIN as a recommended friend and you will earn FINZ Rewards on their purchases.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

Will I earn FINZ Rewards on my own purchases?
No. The FINZ Program is a reward program for producing NEW customers. Your FINZ Rewards CAN be used to make your purchases in their entirety.
back to top  back to PowerFINZ Referral Program Questions

Will I earn FINZ Rewards on all purchases?
At this time all PhoneShark.com® products participate in the FINZ Rewards Program. Products that are "Linked" to by PhoneShark.com® and actually purchased at a third party website are NOT eligible for participation in the program. It is possible that a future product may be introduced that mathematically could not be included in the program. PhoneShark.com® reserves the right to decide which purchases are eligible at any time.

Will I see the Rewards amounts of my Friends?
Yes, you will see how much FINZ Rewards a friend has produced for you. All the Rewards produced by the Level Two, Level Three and Level Four Friends will be reflected in the total shown by the friend that recommended them. You will ALSO see the Rewards reported by each Level totaled separately.

Phone Answers

Is there a contract when purchasing a PREPAID phone?
PREPAID wireless has NO contracts, that is one of the best features of PREPAID wireless. You simply add time as you need it. If stop adding airtime to your PREPAID phone then the phone will simply go "inactive". No contract means NO commitment or agreement at all. Also, many PREPAID phones can actually be converted to "post pay" with the same carrier at a later time.
back to top  back to Phones Questions

When I buy a PREPAID or Traditional Plan wireless phone from PhoneShark.com® how and when will I get it?
When you purchase a new phone you will be given several shipping options at "Check Out". We ship UPS Ground, 2-day, 3-day Select and Overnight as well as USPS First Class and Priority. The shipping and handling charges are calculated by your Zip Code and presented as shipping options at "Check Out". It is up to you to decide which shipping option best fills your needs and budget. Ground shipping is the cheapest and normally arrives in 4 to 5 days depending upon the delivery carrier workload at that time (holidays can result in longer shipping times). We do NOT ship to PO Box addresses (SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS IF YOUR BILLING ADDRESS IS A PO BOX). See Shipping Schedule for more details. An email will be sent to you with your delivery carrier tracking number as soon as your phone is shipped.
back to top  back to Phones Questions

My billing address is a PO Box, how do I get my phone/cellular accessory shipped?
We do not SHIP to PO Boxes. However if your BILLING address is a PO box, simply add two addresses to your profile. At checkout, simply chose the correct address to bill to and then the correct address to ship the phone(s) to. An email will be sent to you with your delivery carrier tracking number as soon as your phone is shipped to the "SHIP TO" address.
back to top  back to Phones Questions

How do I get my NEW cell phone number assigned and activate my phone and is there an "activation fee"?
Activation is FREE unless otherwise noted with the product. PhoneShark.com® has never sold a phone with an additional activation fee, however a future product could possibly incur one (It we be displayed with the product details). When you receive your new phone you will also receive your activation instructions. You will dial a toll-free number to activate the phone and AT THAT TIME YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED THE LOCAL PHONE NUMBER YOU DESIRE! A local phone number can only be assigned in your area when the product appears after completing a Zip Code search. This is especially important when purchasing a phone AS A GIFT. Make sure that the area you wish the phone to be assigned a local number is also available in addition to your billing address Zip Code.
back to top  back to Phones Questions

I already have an existing PREPAID cell phone, can I just purchase "recharge" minutes for it?
You can purchase recharge minutes for existing "active" PREPAID phones at PhoneShark.com® if we carry a "matching" product.
The phone that you use and the recharge minutes buy MUST match (have an Verizon phone, BUY Verizon recharge minutes). You can also purchase a NEW phone at PhoneShark.com® and get a new local phone number issued when you activate the phone. There is no additional activation fee, as activation is included in the price of the new phone purchase. PhoneShark.com® CAN NOT "re-activate" an existing PREPAID cellular phone. Instead you must identify the matching provider to that phone, contact the carrier directly and activate the old phone with the carrier directly. Once your old phone is "active" you may then purchase "recharge minutes" for that phone at PhoneShark.com® so long as we carry a matching product.
back to top  back to Phones Questions

I already have a regular (NOT PREPAID) cell phone can I just purchase "recharge" minutes for it?
PREPAID wireless phones are different (more advanced) than regular wireless phones. You can NOT use a phone you already have in MOST cases. We list which phones and minutes work together with each displayed product. Often getting an old phone switched to a new service is MORE expensive and time consuming than it is worth.
back to top  back to Phones Questions

I already have an "active" PREPAID cell phone and I just want to buy airtime recharge minutes, how do I get them delivered?
"Recharge cards" or air time cards are delivered as "virtual cards" INSTANTLY! No more WAITING IN LINE AT A RETAIL STORE! MAKE SURE YOU BUY A MATCHING RECHARGE CARD (Verizon phone, BUY Verizon Cards). You receive the PIN number and loading instructions that you need to load time onto your phone right there instantly on your screen. You can simply "print" the screen and then follow the instructions to load the time onto your phone. Since the air time cards are delivered electronically there is no wait for your airtime. You also receive a confirmation email with your airtime cards PIN and loading instructions within seconds after your purchase. If you lose both of these copies, you can always "log in" as yourself at the homepage and simply look in your "order history" to retrieve a back-up copy. You will NOT be shipped a plastic recharge card in the mail.
back to top  back to Phones Questions

How do I make sure the service I choose works in my area?
Only purchase phones and/or recharge minutes that appear as available in your Zip code! Make SURE that a product appears in your ZIP code by using the ZIP code search box from the homepage. If your ZIP code matches you will be able to activate a local phone number. Most PREPAID phones actually work nationwide, but using the Zip Code search insures you can be issued a local phone number when activating a new phone. Check the "coverage area" to find out the coverage of the service you are interested in prior to purchase!
back to top  back to Phones Questions

What does "airtime" mean and how are minutes deducted as I use them?
Many new phones come with an initial amount of time and/or a mail in rebate for additional time cards and should be considered when comparing plans. Your minutes are used up as you are "on air" with your cell phone on BOTH inbound and outbound calls. Minutes are deducted in whole 1 minute increments, rounding UP to the next whole minute. For example, a call lasting 2 minutes and 30 seconds would actually deduct 3 whole minutes from your phone. If you receive a call and you don't actually pick up, no minutes will be deducted from your phone. If the call goes into voicemail you can retrieve the message using a regular landline on not lose any airtime minutes. PREPAID wireless phones do not have contracts. HOWEVER, PREPAID wireless service ALL MOST ALWAYS requires that you purchase some amount of recharge minutes and add them to the phone every 45 days to keep your phone "active" or turned on. They will turn off a phone that does not do so and actually charge a "re-activation fee" to reactivate it. Look carefully to see how often you must load new time. Wait to actually load new time cards in order to extend the expiration of the minutes. Plans "roll over" or extend the old unused minutes to the new expiration date when new minutes are added. Plans that include caller ID and voice mail can be very useful. If you let your voice mail pick up the call you can use a land line to check the message and not incur any airtime charges.

What is the difference between "Local" and "National" calling plans?
Local plans have lower rates when calling FROM the local area and the rate can be higher when you travel outside of the "local area" unless you purchase a "national" plan. MOST people should choose the "Local" calling plan as they RARELY travel outside of the "Local" calling area of that carrier. Always check under "coverage" to see how large of an area the "local" calling area is to see if this fits your needs. Long distance calling ALMOST always included in the rate per minute, check each products "terms and conditions" to be sure.

Should I worry about Digital over Analog coverage?
Most PREPAID phones are Digital only (SOME are dual band). This means that they will NOT roam when you enter an analog coverage area. Check the coverage area carefully to insure that the coverage meets your needs. For example, the Cingular Nokia 5160 IS a dual band phone and is one of the more popular models. Most "Digital" networks have nearly total national coverage, but check "coverage" of the product you are interested in.
